Stillington Youth Group
Membership was open to young people aged 13 to 19
Held at Stillington Youth & Community Centre
Monday & Wednesday 7pm. till 9 pm.
Young people must complete a registration form and read, agree and sign the Behaviour Policy.
Members are encouraged to participate in session planning and organising activities.
They have recently visited a Chinese restaurant and an Italian restaurant, made Mother’s Day cards and demonstrated their artistic abilities when painting on canvas.
Another very popular session was when a DJ from Top Dog visited the Centre and showed members tips on using the decks. Other leisure activities include playing football, pool and using the computer. We are currently planning future sessions to visit Hollywood Bowl, organise a BBQ and a basket ball tournament.
Young people have the opportunity to work towards accreditation. Several members have been awarded Emergency Aid certificates after completing training. Some have also gained REAL Award certificates. Young people who attend the Centre have the opportunity to develop their skills in teamwork, leadership and negotiation.
Youth workers encourage members to evaluate sessions. Written and verbal feedback from young people has been positive. When asked why they attend the Centre young people stated, “It’s warm; we have a laugh, meet friends, good crack, different things to do”.
