With gratitude to Tees Valley Community Foundation for a Start up Funding Grant of £1,132.00 to cover Hall Fees, Tutor Fees and Materials, until April 2008
The first meeting was held on 1st. Nov. 2007 and every Thursday since, at Stillington Youth & Community Centre
The group started with a good mix of many absolute beginners and some with a bit of experience, and continues with an average of 15 people turning up every week.
It is a 'Do Your Own Thing' Group and the main interests are Watercolour and Acrylic Painting but our resident Tutor Desi Cairns as well as instructing in these areas has introduced a wealth of new ideas and expertise eg. Sketching, Graphic Art, Silk Painting, Glass Painting and Decorating Stones,
We have also have the benefit of Guest Artist - Lynne Cooke doing Workshops in Watercolour and Acrylics on the 1st Thursday of each month
The Group held its first exhibition with 53 excellent exhibits at the Annual Roadshow on June 8th. 2008. the standard was amazing and is now a permanent feature of the roadshow. There is also a permanent display of work in the local Surgery.
If enjoyment and enthusiasm by all is anything to go by, ongoing success is definitely on the cards.
